As I reflect on the challenges of the past year, the cancelled travel plans in 2020 and the fact that my passport didn't get stamped whatsoever for the first time in a very long time, I just can't help but feel grateful.
So very grateful for the privilege to have already experienced and explored so many places on earth... 9 out of 10 Canadian provinces, and more than 20 countries on 4 different continents to date!
So many bucket-list-trips and experiences that included:
- Hiking the Amalfi Coast of Italy
- Sailing the Greek Islands of Santorini, Mykonos, Patmos, Rhodes, Crete and Evia
- Celebrating Valentine's Day with a horse carriage ride in Vienna, Austria
- Honeymooning in Egypt, exploring the ancient ruins and cruising the Nile
- Treking the World's Most Dangerous Volcano Crater - Mount Vesuvius
- Witnessing millions of migrating Monarch butterflies in Mexico
- Drinking the coldest water from the mighty Athabasca Glacier in the Columbia Icefield
- Being awed by ice-sculpted fjords at Glacier Bay National Park in Alaska
- Stampeding in Calgary
- Tracking wildlife on a South African safari
- Sleeping in a Saharan desert camp in Morocco, an Ice Hotel and the most haunted jail in Canada
- Soaking my troubles away in an Icelandic hot spring, while experiencing 22 hours of daylight
- Rejuvenating with a mud bath in Costa Rica and a Hammam in Morocco
- Being delighted with a Traditional Moroccan Tea Ceremony
- Toasting the morning with champagne at the top of the Eiffel Tower
- Parading in costume at Carnival in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
- Walking in Darwin's footsteps on the Galapagos Islands of Ecuador
- Learning the hula at an authentic Hawaiian Luau
- Practising yoga at the top of the Banff Gondola surrounded with majestic views of Sulphur Mountain
- Baking Croissants at a Parisian Bakery
- Indulging in a tasty Paella in Spain, delicious tagine in Morocco, and the best pizza in Italy
- Listening to a classical concert at Teatro di San Carlo (Naples, Italy), the oldest Baroque-type working theatre in Europe
- Drinking the cheapest and most delicious wine in Portugal
- Creating my own personal perfume in Paris
- Walking the ocean floor at Hopewell Rocks in New Brunswick
- Collecting Mardi Gras beads in New Orleans
- Contributing medical supplies to clinics in the remote Atlas Mountains of Morocco, school supplies to a favela in Rio, and helping to build homes with Habitat for Humanity in Kaua'i
As Susan Sontag quoted, 'I haven't been Everywhere, but it's on my list.' So, even though our travel adventures are on pause for now, I look forward to adventuring and exploring the world again soon...and can't wait to help you do the same!
